CNA Classes in Maryland

If you want to become a Certified Nursing Assistant in Maryland, you will have to complete the procedure.

The procedure consists of completing a training program, and clearing your criminal background checks.

However, those who want to work in nursing homes have to earn the Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certificate, which can achieve after they pass the specialized test.

Training Requirements

Maryland aspiring nurses have to sign up for the official training program approved by the state.

Check the Board of Nursing website to find the complete list of all official and appropriate programs.

After you finish your training, you apply for a GNA license.

However, international nurses and out-of-state nurses can be eligible for the license as well.

The same applies to the people who took military clinical training.

Final Test

In Maryland, nurses have to pass the NNAAP – National Nurse Aide Assessment Program test to get their license.

The test has two parts – the skills demonstration and the knowledge test.

The skills demonstration consist of performing five nursing assistant duties, such as taking measurements.

You can take the knowledge test in a written or oral format.

The Pearson VUE administers the NNAAP test, but the registration is thought the American Red Cross.

There are several testing locations across Maryland, so you can pick the place which is the most convenient for you.

If you fail the test the first time, you have four additional attempts within a certain deadline.

Candidates who fail again must take the course from the beginning again.

You have to pay $105 for the complete test assessment.

Application

Instructors in the official programs help their students to apply for the test, and guide them through the procedure.

If you are not enrolled in any official programs, you can request learning materials and registration forms from the Board of Nursing.

The documentation is required, but it depends on your eligibility route.

For example, you might be asked to submit copies of past certificates, verification of out-of-state CNA certificate, diplomas, recommendation letters, instructor signature, etc.

Also, you can verify your registration status online.
