What Are the Training Requirements?
If you live in Missouri, you would have to complete a state-approved training program.
Make sure to consult the current list of approved programs by the state’s CMT, LIMA, CNA, and Insulin Registry.
The minimum age, in most cases, is 18 years.
However, there are alternative pathways.
If you are a graduate nurse or someone who had undergone training in another country, you are permitted to challenge the examination.
What Does the Examination Process Look Like?
The state-approved courses culminate in an examination.
The test includes two components – the skills demonstration and the knowledge test.
You can choose to pass the knowledge test in a written or an oral format.
Bear in mind that you would have to challenge the examination right after the completion of the course; in case you don’t manage to attempt passing the test 6 months after graduation, you would have to complete the training course all over again.
The great news is that you can choose a preferred location (test sites are available throughout the state); after that, you will be scheduled for the next available date.
If you fail, you are allowed to re-take the exam two times within a limited period of time (in case you didn’t manage to do that, you would be required to complete a training course again).
However, if you haven’t completed a state-approved program, you will have only one attempt to pass the examination; in case you fail both or one of the components of the test – you will be asked to take the CNA training course.
The Application Process
If you were enrolled in a state-approved training program, the chances are high that your instructor will take care of practically all of the steps of the process.
In case you are an out-of-state candidate, an individual applying on the basis of alternative training, or a candidate who is applying on his or her own, do submit the necessary materials to the Department of Health and Senior Services.
You may be required to submit some supporting documentation, depending on the eligibility route.
The documents might include a letter from a nursing school, a training instructor’s signature on the application, verification of past state CNA certification, a copy of a nursing diploma, a copy of an out-of-state certificate, and so on.
Schools
In the near future, there is going to be a higher demand for Certified Nurse Assistants in the state.
Of course, it is a career path that is full of challenges, but an extremely rewarding one.
