Final Exam
Aspiring CNAs in the state of New York must complete the New York State Nursing Home Nurse Aide Competency Examination.
The examination has two parts – the skills check and the knowledge test.
The skills test is a practical way to demonstrate whether you are competent because you will have to perform all important nursing activities.
As for the knowledge test, there is a written test or oral test and you can pick the way to take it.
In New York state, there are 23 testing locations where you can take the test.
The test fee is $115 for the skills check and written knowledge test.
If you pick an oral test, the examination will cost you $135.
All useful information and learning materials you can find on the Prometric website.
Candidates have several attempts to pass the test.
The retaking of skills test costs $68, oral $67, and written test retaking is $57.
If you fail, you will have to take the course again from the beginning.
The Application Process
Candidates enrolled in the official training program can relax, because their instructors will take care of the application procedure.
Out-of-state candidates and individuals applying based on alternative training can find all necessary information on the Prometric website.
However, sometimes you need to be approved by the Department of Health first.
The required documentation varies for different candidates.
You might be asked to submit past and expired CNA certificates, copies of a nursing school diploma, training instructor signature, etc.
